REHOMING RETIRED RACERS (RRR)
While the GAP programs across Australia and the amazing volunteer rehoming groups have gorgeous dogs and do amazing work rehoming retired racers, there are lots of success stories of wonderful pet greyhounds being rehomed directly from trainers and owners.
The strength of adopting from a recognized adoption group is the support and foster care network, but if it is done correctly private adoption can also be highly successful.
RehomingRetiredRacers (RRR) is NOT an adoption group and we don't have kennels with dogs waiting for adoption.
Instead, RRR is a greyhound network designed to connect greyhound owners and trainers across Australia, with individuals and families looking to privately rehome a stunning retired greyhound.
Rehoming Retired Racers has TWO elements:
-
Racing owners and trainers using the DOG PROFILE REGISTRATION FORM to highlight their awesome dogs that are available
Owners/trainers posting their dogs will provide a range of information to help potential owners learn more about the dog's personality, its background, current location, immunisation status, availability and support being offered.
-
Potential pet owners viewing the GREYHOUNDS AVAILABLE page to look for their forever friends
PLEASE NOTE: if the greyhound details being submitted is Victorian based and the owner is not a participant registered with GRV, under Victorian legislation a source number will be required
STATE REHOMING GUIDELINES AND ASSISTANCE
All greyhounds awaiting rehoming are subject to guidelines from the respective State racing authorities and both current racing and potential pet owners should take time to understand the requirements of the retirement process.
In Victoria, the retirement and rehoming of racing greyhounds is governed by the Code of Practice and GRV Local Rule 42.6.
Assistance to owners and trainers is provided by Greyhound Racing NSW through the Rehoming Assistance Scheme
